Diet for Healthy Teeth

healthy-foodsThe first step towards a beautiful smile is maintaining a healthy diet.

A diet rich with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean meats and dairy will help keep your teeth healthy. Limiting sugar consumption will protect your teeth from getting cavities.

Cavities are formed over time. Your teeth are primarily made up of minerals. When you eat, the sugars in your food mix with specific bacteria in your mouth creating an acidic environment that erodes the minerals in your teeth. This tooth decaying bacteria collects along your gum line and on your teeth, it is a sticky white mass called plaque.

Saliva fights tooth decay by neutralizing acidity in your mouth. Remember to drink lots of water throughout the day to protect your teeth from cavities. Flossing at least once a day will help remove plaque from your mouth, further protecting your teeth.

With proper dental care and a sensible diet, you can help your teeth remineralize and live cavity free.
